The San Diego LGBT Pride board of directors has announced this year's theme, "One World, One Heart, One Pride." The theme reflects an ongoing movement that calls for unity and compassion in the quest of achieving full equal rights for all people. "It reminds us that we are all one and that prejudice and bigotry take root when we split the people of the world into marginalized groups," says Ron deHarte, executive director of San Diego Pride. "The theme further emphasizes the desire to live in peace, love with all of our hearts and be proud of who we are." This is only the seventh time since 1975 that San Diego Pride has wholly adopted a global theme from the International Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Coordinators (InterPride). The slogan will set the tone for a series of San Diego Pride programs in 2010, including the 36th annual parade and two-day festival scheduled for July 17 and 18.
